Disc golf follows rules similar to traditional ball golf but uses discs thrown into a basket instead of balls into a hole. Here are the basic rules for beginners:
Objective: The goal is to complete each hole in the fewest number of throws (strokes) possible, just like in ball golf.
Starting: Begin each hole from the designated tee area. The player with the lowest score on the previous hole throws first. Most holes have 3 tees to play from:
Orange Tees (beginner/shorter distance)
White Tee (shorts/intermediate)
Blue Tees (long/advance)
Throwing:
Tee throws must be made from within the designated tee area.
After the tee throw, the player whose disc is farthest from the hole throws first.
Fairway Play:
Each subsequent throw is made from where the disc lands, with the player's trailing foot on the spot of the previous throw.
Completion of a Hole:
A hole is completed when the disc lands in the basket or chains, and comes to rest.
The player then moves to the next tee and continues until all holes have been played.
Penalties:
Players incur a one-throw penalty for each throw that lands out of bounds (marked by line).
If a player's disc lands in a water hazard, they play from the designated drop zone or the previous lie with a penalty stroke.
Scoring:
Each throw counts as one point (stroke).
The player with the lowest total score at the end of the round wins.
Etiquette:
Always yield to other players ahead of you.
Do not throw until the group ahead of you is out of range.
Keep noise to a minimum to avoid distracting other players.
Equipment:
Use discs designed for disc golf, which vary in stability and distance.
Beginners typically start with a driver, mid-range disc, and putter.
Additional Rules:
Different courses may have specific rules regarding boundaries, mandatories (required flight paths), or special hazards.
